J & L Tumblers

In collaboration with J. & L. Lobmeyr

Commissioned by: Vienna Design Week

2014, Vienna, Austria

“Incredible care and attention are put into the smallest details, yet at the same time many of the pieces are intended for everyday use

– encouraging us to (re)discover the joy of our daily rituals.” With this in mind we have created the J & L Tumblers.

The design process started by diving into the exquisite Lobmeyr archives, browsing through a fascinating collection of crystal-ware created within almost two decades.

Paying a special attention to the classic Biedermeier friendship tumbler, we have continued with the exploration of various decorative methods, including stone-wheel-cutting, engraving and sand-blasting.

The result is a set of matching tumblers, destined for two people sharing a special moment together.

The J & L tumblers are available in three variations – a plain set, featuring only the base-cut, a customized set, featuring two silhouettes, and a third set with an additional engraved ribbon-like pattern, which appears to flow between and connect the two tumblers.

The commission was a part of the acclaimed Passionswege project, in which the Vienna Design Week invites a selected group of designers to collaborate with local producers.

With special thanks to: Leonid, Johannes and Andreas Rath, Lilli Hollein, Tina Thiel, Julia Hürner, Ana Berlin and her team, Verena Litzka, Katja and Werner Nussbaumer, Nadine-Auris Kunisch and all the great team at Lobmeyr!
